The September Issue

In light of my recent lack of ispiration and motivation I thought it was a good time to see a movie I have been meaning to see for a long time. The September Issue was released to select theatres last August. Being the distracted person that I am, I missed my opportunity to see it on the big screen, so when the movie was released on Tuesday, I was able to snatch it up and enjoy it in all of it's splendor in my home.

The September Issue is a documentary about the making of the September issue of Vogue Magazine. The September issue is the biggest, most important issue of the year. The documentary follows Anna Wintour, editor and chief of Vogue, Andre Leon Talley (editor at large) and Grace Coddington, the creative director, as they create the 840 page masterpiece.

Watching Grace Coddingon create GORGEOUS editorials gave me that boost that I find myself needing every so often. Her story was really my favorite part of the film. I really suggest the film to anyone interested in fashion. It really shows what an impact these people have on the industry as a whole.

Camo Crazy

It makes sense that with all the military styles that are currently popular that camo would be soon to follow. When worn correctly camoflauge is a good way to be girly, with a little edge. Paired with a plain t-shirt and sandals, it gives the look of effortless cool. I posted pictures of some really great camo and military inspired finds. What do you think about this trend??

pleasantly suprised

I'm not a frequent shopper at Old Navy, but I was on shopstyle.com last night and came across some pretty cute things that just so happened to come from there. I had some free time today so I took the opportunity to do a little shopping. I was so pleasantly suprised with how much of their merchandise I really liked, AND what a great value it was! I spent roughly $120.00 and got a tank top, a sweater, a boyfriend button up, 3 necklaces and the exact pair of boots I've been had in my head for weeks. And on a related note, while I was on Shopstyle.com I also came across a really great motorcycle style light denim jacket from the Gap. Today, after circling the store a few times without finding the jacket, I showed one of the workers the jacket on my phone. She went to the back room and brought me out a fresh-out-of-the-box jacket and informed me that all new merchandise was 25% off. SCORE. Here are a few of my purches:

swap meet with awesome visuals

As a fashion merchandising student (in addition to being a life-long fan of fashion) I have come to develop a greater appreciation for all aspects of the industry. One such aspect I've grown pretty fond of is visual merchandising. It's amazing what visuals do for a store... think about it, would you initially have been as drawn to Urban Outfitters or Anthropology if there wasn't all that extra stuff in the store to draw your attention? This is a slideshow of images found on Wallpaper.com. Wallpaper is a lifestyle magazine out of London that focuses on architechture, art, interior design and fashion. There is a lot of really amazing imagery on that website. But, as I was saying, this slideshow shows the development of the visuals for a pop-up boutique in New York City's lower east side.

very nontraditional fashion show

This is a video of the Moncler FW 2010 line that's presented in an extremely creative way!  Moncler is a high end French outterwear company. There merchandise is available at Saks, Nieman Marcus, Bloomingdale's, Bergdorf Goodman, ect. You get it, it's expensive, but that's beside the point. They used 100 models and set them up on several stories of scaffolding on a port along the Hudson River.. very indusrial area, which makes for a great atmosphere. Also, the sweeping views of New York City all lit up makes it that much better. I was really blown away by this so I hope you like it too!

Fashion's New Fever: Bloggers in Spotlight As They Aim for Fame - Media News - WWD.com

I love this article in Women's Wear Daily about fashion bloggers becoming an important part of fashion shows. It's very interesting! Not that the main of goal of creating this blog was fame (I'd be exstatic if anyone happens across this site that isn't my mom or friends), I just think it's really awesome that the bloggers are getting recognition. The time's they are a changin'! Blogs are a huge source of fashion info, ideas, and tips and it makes perfect sense and its smart on the designers' part to pay attention to that. Anyway, read and enjoy!

New York Fashion Week FW 2010

Maybe I've just watched to many shows all at once or something, because there isn't one collection that stands out to me that I LOVE. There are certain pieces from certain collections that I really like but overall I'm kind of not impressed... sorry? I like that there is a lot of black because it's pretty much all that I wear. The pops of color I'm seeing are great though. I love the purples and teals and yellows. Jewel tones are without a doubt my favorite, and they look great on everyone. I'm going to do some more "blog research" and try and find some more of these little gems. It has become my obsession, LITERALLY overnight. Until next time, some of my favorite moments from Fashion Week thus far. Enjoy!

giving this a go..

So I spent a good chunk of my day looking at about 5 different blogs and was surprisingly fascinated by other people's nonsense ramblings. I thought to myself, I could do this! I could use some kind of creative outpouring and one consolidated place to do it in. And thus, KATELAND is born.

I've tried the whole blog thing a few times before, but I think this one has staying power... not to mention I'm finding myself with more and more free time to fill.
